











TalkSwitch Release 6.12 Download and Installation Instructions
Release 6.12.078 is a software and firmware update package for TalkSwitch VS, CVA and CA phone systems operating in the United States and Canada.
Instructions for updating both the software and the firmware are included below.
WARNING: If you have TalkSwitch 48-NLS or TalkSwitch 24 units DO NOT use this software.
The application of this update to TalkSwitch 48-NLS or TalkSwitch 24 units, or to units in use outside the United
States and Canada, invalidates any warranty and may result in phone system impairment.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING SOFTWARE RELEASE 6.12
Please confirm that your computer meets the
Recommended PC system specifications before proceeding.
Step 1: If you have an existing version of TalkSwitch software installed on your PC, launch your TalkSwitch software, and use
File > Save to File
to store your current TalkSwitch configuration file to a convenient location on your PC for future reference (if needed).
Step 2: Download Release 6.12.078 software (login required).
The download includes the software, firmware and documentation.
Step 3: Run the installer
TSM612078_US.exe program.
A Language Selection window will appear. Use the drop-down menu to select English, Espanol or Francais.
All subsequent instructions will be displayed in your selected language, as will help documents and resource links.
Click the
OK button to proceed.
Step 4: If a previous version of the software is installed, a dialog will pop up and request to uninstall a previous version.
Select
YES to proceed. Though you have the option to retain older version(s) of TalkSwitch Configuration software, we strongly recommend that you uninstall all previous versions.
Your saved configuration files are retained during any TalkSwitch software update.
If you are updating from Release 3.24, a confirmation dialog window will pop up to ensure that you want to uninstall this product.
Select
YES. This will remove the older version of the software.
Step 5: The TalkSwitch Installation Wizard will appear. Click
Next to proceed.
A window will display the software end-user license agreement.
Clicking
I Agree will permit the installation to proceed.
Step 6: A window will appear allowing you to specify the location on your PC to install the necessary software.
The default location is recommended. Click the
Install button to proceed.
Step 7: The installation will proceed, with progress displayed throughout.
The installer will also check whether your PC has Java software required for TalkSwitch configuration software.
The update process may take several minutes.
Step 8: During the update of USB software, a window will appear to request that you disconnect any USB cable plugged into TalkSwitch.
When there is no USB connection to TalkSwitch, click the
OK button to proceed.
Step 9: When all files have been loaded, you will be given the option to include shortcuts to the TalkSwitch software.
A final window will confirm that the installation has completed successfully. Click the
Finish button.
Note: If the installation did not succeed, close the installer, ensure that the PC is running a fully-updated, compatible version of Windows, then re-try the installation.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR UPDATING FIRMWARE TO RELEASE 6.12
In order to take advantage of new features,
you need to update the firmware of all of your TalkSwitch units.
This process will require that the system not be used for phone calls for approximately 3-15 minutes.
Step 1: Ensure TalkSwitch is connected to the same LAN as your PC, or connect your PC directly to TalkSwitch using a USB cable.
Step 2: Run TalkSwitch Management Software. The program should automatically detect any connected TalkSwitch units.
Note: If you are connected via USB, TalkSwitch software may load or update a USB driver on your PC.
If a "Found New Hardware Wizard" window appears, we recommend that you allow Windows Update to update your system with the latest driver software.
This process will install two USB drivers for TalkSwitch.
Step 3: When software establishes a connection with the TalkSwitch unit, a window will pop up, informing you there is new firmware available.
Click
Update to proceed.
Step 4: A second window will appear with information about your firmware update options.
By default, the most recent available firmware for your region will be selected.
For quickest results select the
Auto-Reboot option. Click
Update to proceed.
The software will retrieve your TalkSwitch configuration file and store a copy of it.
A new configuration file will be created, which contains your previous settings and default settings for new features.
Progress will be displayed as each essential phone system file is updated.
If you did not select
Auto-Reboot, when the firmware update is complete a status window will appear.
Select one of the reboot options, then click the
Reboot button to proceed.
A dialog will appear with a timer while the system(s) reboot.
Step 5: When the reboot is complete, your newly converted configuration file will be saved to your TalkSwitch units, and the configuration software will open.
Step 6: Upon opening the configuration software you will be notified to optimize the audio performance of your telephone lines before using the phone system.
Click the
OK button to proceed.
From the configuration software left menu select
Telephone Lines, then click the
Calibrate Lines button in the
Line Optimization field.
A
Calibrate lines window will appear.
Select one of the telephone line calibration methods, then click the
Proceed button.
Complete the calibration of your telephone lines using the chosen method.
Note: If you have TS-350i or TS-550i phones with keys programmed to use system speed dial numbers, you should power the phones off, then on, to re-initialize the phones.
Congratulations! Your TalkSwitch software and firmware updates are complete.
Recommended PC System Specifications
Ensure that this software is installed on a PC meeting the system specifications listed below.
Installing this program on a PC that does not meet these specifications will cause this program to
operate poorly and may slow the operation of other programs on your computer.
- Fully updated Windows XP, Windows Vista 32-bit or Windows 2000.
- Compatible with fully updated Windows 7 or Windows Vista 64-bit, for LAN-connected TalkSwitch units. USB connection is not supported for Windows 64-bit operating systems.
- Updated Java Runtime Environment (version 6 update 16 or higher)
- 1 GHz processor
- Windows 7 and Vista: 1 GB RAM; Windows XP and 2000: 512 MB RAM
- 220MB Hard Disk Space
- 1024x768 Screen Resolution
There is currently no support for Mac OS or Linux operating systems.
There is no support for operating systems no longer supported by Microsoft,
such as Windows 98, Windows ME and Windows 95.
