TS-850i/860i Firmware Update for the US and Canada

Release 1.41 is a required update for exisitng TalkSwitch TS-850i bases/phones that will also be using 860i handsets. TalkSwitch systems must be running firmware version 6.50 or higher. We recommend that you update your 850i base and handsets to 1.41 before connecting a new 860i handset.

Checking Your TS-850i/860i Firmware Version

Step 1: While not on a call, press the Increase Volume ('Up') button on the left side of the handset. After a brief delay the phone will display a System Status screen.

Step 2: Press the navigation pad down arrow button to show the second screen, which includes the firmware version. Example: Sw: 01.32 Hw: 0.

Step 3: If the firmware version is the same as the latest release (1.41), then no further action is required. If the version number is lower than the latest release, proceed with the update.

Firmware Update Using the Internet (recommended)

Step 1: Make sure that no calls are in progress on handsets connected to the base station you wish to update. If your system uses repeaters to extend the range of your handsets, turn the repeaters off until the update process completes.

Step 2: On a handset connected to the base, press the OK key from the navigation pad to view the main menu.

Step 3: Use the up arrow from the navigation pad to select the Settings symbol, then press the OK key.

Step 4: Use the up arrow key from the navigation pad to select the System Settings menu, then press the OK key.

Step 5: Use the up arrow key from the navigation pad to find and select Firmware update, then press the OK key. The handset will search for available updates.

Step 6: A Firmware upd. screen will appear showing Version 0141 as the new version. Press the OK key to continue with the update process.

Step 7: A screen will appear with language options. Use the up arrow or down arrow keys to select the preferred language for your handset, then press the OK key.

Step 8: A warning dialog will appear notifying that the update will take up to 20 minutes per handset. Select the Yes softkey to proceed, or the No softkey to go to the previous menu.

Step 9: If an update is selected, all handsets will display a progress screen describing the update process. Each handset on the base station will be updated sequentially. Note: Do not click on the Done button while the handsets are still updating as this will interrupt the update process.

Step 10: When the update process completes, the handset will display a Firmware upd. dialog stating the new firmware version number. Press the OK key to return to normal handset operation. If you use repeaters and turned them off in step 1, turn them back on and ensure their correct operation.

Congratulations! Your TS-850i/860i should now be operating with the best possible features, performance and reliability.

TS-850i/860i firmware update using the TalkSwitch Phone Updater program

TalkSwitch Phone Updater is a free software program that updates the firmware on programmable TalkSwitch phone models with efficient simplicity. This software is highly recommended for all TalkSwitch phone system administrators, and is the only update method recommended for phones on networks with no Internet access.

Step 1: Confirm which TalkSwitch software version your phone system is presently running (e.g. 6.12, 6.50, other).

Step 2: From a PC with Internet access, download the updater from: Phone Updater 1.21 for systems running TalkSwitch 6.50 or higher (login required).
TalkSwitch Phone Updater version 1.21 is only compatible with TalkSwitch version 6.50 or higher software.

Copy the downloaded program onto a PC located on the same LAN as the TalkSwitch phones requiring updates.

Step 3: Install the TalkSwitch Phone Updater program. Follow the instructions provided throughout the installation process.

Step 4: Run the TalkSwitch Phone Updater program. Follow the instructions provided by the program to update the firmware for each eligible TalkSwitch phone in your system.

After each updated phone completes its reboot, the phone will now operate with the best possible features, performance and reliability.
