













TS-850i Firmware Update for the United States and Canada
Release 0132 is a free, recommended update for TalkSwitch TS-850i phones operating with earlier firmware in the United States and Canada.

This firmware update contains performance improvements based on our ongoing product development and field reports.
Improvements over the previous version 0127 include:
- Audio improvements: louder sound level in earpiece, slightly quieter mic level and sidetone (hearing your own voice) level in handset mode.
- Reduced level of echo (if present).
- Fixed issue with Transfer when a Contact has only a cell number assigned.
- Fixed issue receiving three or more simultaneous Message Waiting messages.
- The default Value for DHCP Option is changed to static.
- Updated French translation.
Checking Your TS-850i Firmware Version
Step 1: While not on a call, press the
Increase Volume ('Up') button on the left side of the handset.
After a brief delay the phone will display a
System Status screen.
Step 2: Press the navigation pad
down arrow button to show the second screen, which includes the firmware version.
Example:
Sw: 01.27 Hw: 0.
Step 3: If the firmware version is the same as the latest release, then no further action is required.
If the version number is lower than the latest release, proceed with the update.
Firmware Update Using the Internet (recommended)
Step 1: Make sure that no calls are in progress on handsets connected to the base station you wish to update.
If your system uses repeaters to extend the range of your handsets, turn the repeaters off until the update process completes.
Step 2: On a handset connected to the base, press the
OK key from the navigation pad to view the main menu.
Step 3: Use the
up arrow from the navigation pad to select the
Settings symbol, then press the
OK key.
Step 4: Use the
up arrow key from the navigation pad to select the
System Settings menu, then press the
OK key.
Step 5: Use the
up arrow key from the navigation pad to find and select
Firmware update, then press the
OK key.
The handset will search for available updates.
Step 6: A
Firmware upd. screen will appear showing
Version 0132 as the new version.
Press the
OK key to continue with the update process.
Step 7: A screen will appear with language options.
Use the
up arrow or
down arrow keys to select the preferred language for your handset, then press the
OK key.
Step 8: A warning dialog will appear notifying that the update will take up to 20 minutes per handset.
Select the
Yes softkey to proceed, or the
No softkey to go to the previous menu.
Step 9: If an update is selected, all handsets will display a progress screen describing the update process.
Each handset on the base station will be updated sequentially.
Note: Do
not click on the
Done button while the handsets are still updating as this will interrupt the update process.
Step 10: When the update process completes, the handset will display a
Firmware upd. dialog stating the new firmware version number.
Press the
OK key to return to normal handset operation.
If you use repeaters and turned them off in step 1, turn them back on and ensure their correct operation.
Congratulations! Your TS-850i should now be operating with the best possible features, performance and reliability.
Download and Firmware Update Instructions Without Internet Access
Step 1: Click here to download the TS-850i Update Utility.
Copy the downloaded program onto a PC located on the same LAN as the TS-850i base station.
Step 2: Make sure that no calls are in progress on handsets connected to the base station you wish to update.
If your system uses repeaters to extend the range of your handsets, turn the repeaters off until the update process is completed.
Step 3: On the PC located on the same LAN as the TS-850i base station, double click the
TS850iUpdater.exe icon to launch the program.
Step 4: If you have more than one active network interface, select in the
Discovery Interface section the IP address associated to the LAN where the TS-850i is connected.
Step 5: Click on the
Discover 850i Bases button to search for the base(s) on your network.
Discovery of the base(s) on your network should complete within a minute.
Step 6: In the
Discovered 850i Bases window, highlight the
MAC address of the base to update.
Note: If you wish to confirm the MAC address, it is printed on the label on the underside of the base.
Step 7: Ensure the IP address of the TalkSwitch phone system connected to the TS-850i is displayed in the field below the Bases list (it is detected automatically).
If necessary you can enter the IP address in this field directly.
Step 8: Click on
Upgrade 850i Firmware button to start updating the firmware on the bases.
The update process may take from 10 to 150 minutes depending on network conditions and the number of handsets associated with the base.
Note: Do
not click on the
Done button while the handsets are still updating as this will interrupt the update process.
Step 9: Once you notice the update is complete for all handsets click the
Done button in the window.
This will complete the update process for the selected base station and its handset(s).
Congratulations! Your TS-850i should now be operating with the best possible features, performance and reliability.
