TalkSwitch Configuration Software for the United Kingdom and Ireland


Release 6.12.089 is a free, strongly-recommended update for TalkSwitch VS, CVA or CA phone systems operating in the United Kingdom and Ireland. See the New Features list for more information on this important update.

This release is supported for computers meeting the PC specifications.

Improvements over the previous version 6.12.078 (Jun 01/10):
  • Mandatory firmware version for TS-480vs, TS-484vs and TS-488vs units built in 2011. These models will be pre-loaded with 6.12.85 (or newer) firmware. Updating existing systems prior to adding a new 480vs-series model is recommended to ensure best results. Attaching a new 480-series unit to systems running older versions of firmware will initiate a firmware update to the older units to ensure compatibility.
  • Security upgrades. For recommendations on how to best secure your phone system click here.
  • Improves recovery when calls from VoIP sources stop responding to TalkSwitch messages at critical times (i.e. lose connection), freeing the port for new calls.
  • Fixeds two scenarios in which paging initiated from an IP phone may not pass audio to destination.
  • Improved assurance of RTP audio paths during transfer and hold scenarios.
  • Ensures all eligible phones in a ring group spanning networked TalkSwitch units will accept a group page.
  • Other recent improvements based on field experience.

New Features in Release 6.12


Software version 6.12 adds new IP phones and builds on suggestions from our channel partners, customers and team to add performance, power and value to your phone system.

This release provides a wealth of improvements to optimize installation and give you best-in-class phone system performance. We highly recommend all customers update to this version of TalkSwitch software.

Support for two exceptional new phones:
6.12 supports two new IP phones, the TalkSwitch TS-350i and TS-550i.

These sophisticated, easy-to-use phones feature crystal-clear sound and exceptional speakerphones. They have big, bright multicolor programmable appearance keys for one-touch access to lines, extensions and queues for key-system style operation, and one-touch feature keys for voicemail, system speed dials, call park/unpark, call pickup, PA paging and more.

Superb audio:
TalkSwitch delivers industry-leading audio performance for your small business phone system. The innovative TalkSwitch Line Optimizer precisely matches your phone system to your analogue telephone lines to deliver superb call quality. Line Optimization is recommended whenever IP phones are used.

Automatic VoIP service provider configuration:
TalkSwitch makes setting up a VoIP account easier than ever by automatically completing most of the configuration needed to register with approved Service Providers. Once you've input your account-specific information, TalkSwitch software takes care of the rest.

Windows 7 compatible for network-connected TalkSwitch systems:
TalkSwitch software is now compatible with Windows 7 and Windows 64-bit operating systems, for configuration of TalkSwitch using IP connections locally over a LAN or remotely over the Internet. USB connection to TalkSwitch is not presently supported for Windows 64-bit operating systems.

Improved Missed Calls indication on classic IP phones:
TS-9112i, TS-9133i and TS-480i phones no longer list the number of missed calls on their LCD displays. A message waiting indication will alert you to missed calls directed to voicemail, with no duplicate indication of missed calls on the display.

Updated built-in help files:
All the information you need to configure your TalkSwitch phone system is built in to each page of software. Click the help icon on any page to get all your answers and more.

Note: 6.12 is a required update for future software releases:
To continue receiving free TalkSwitch software updates containing new features and product improvements, your system will require Release 6.12.

Recommended PC System Specifications


Ensure that this software is installed on a PC meeting the system specifications listed below. Installing this program on a PC that does not meet these specifications will cause this program to operate poorly and may slow the operation of other programs on your computer.
  • The following fully updated Windows 32-bit operating systems: XP, Vista, 7, or 2000.
  • The following fully updated Windows 64-bit operating systems, for IP-connected TalkSwitch units: XP, Vista, or 7. USB connection is not supported for Windows 64-bit operating systems.
  • Updated Java Runtime Environment (version 6 update 16 or higher)
  • 1 GHz processor
  • Windows 7 and Vista: 1 GB RAM; Windows XP and 2000: 512 MB RAM
  • 220MB Hard Disk Space
  • 1024x768 Screen Resolution
There is currently no support for Mac OS or Linux operating systems.
There is no support for operating systems no longer supported by Microsoft, such as Windows 98, Windows ME and Windows 95.



INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING SOFTWARE RELEASE 6.12


Please confirm that your computer meets the Recommended PC system specifications before proceeding.

WARNING: The application of this update to units in use outside the United Kingdom and Ireland, invalidates any warranty and may result in phone system impairment.

Step 1: If you have an existing version of TalkSwitch software installed on your PC, launch your TalkSwitch software, and use File > Save to File to store your current TalkSwitch configuration file to a convenient location on your PC for future reference (if needed).

Step 2: Download Release 6.12 software (login required). The download includes the software, firmware and documentation.

Step 3: Run the installer TSM612089_UK.exe program. A Language Selection window will appear. Use the drop-down menu to select English, Espanol or Francais. All subsequent instructions will be displayed in your selected language, as will help documents and resource links. Click the OK button to proceed.



Step 4: If a previous version of the software is installed, a dialog will pop up and request to uninstall a previous version. Select YES to proceed. Though you have the option to retain older version(s) of TalkSwitch Configuration software, we strongly recommend that you uninstall all previous versions.



Your saved configuration files are retained during any TalkSwitch software update.

Step 5: The TalkSwitch Installation Wizard will appear. Click Next to proceed.



A window will display the software end-user license agreement.
Clicking I Agree will permit the installation to proceed.

Step 6: A window will appear allowing you to specify the location on your PC to install the necessary software. The default location is recommended. Click the Install button to proceed.



Step 7: The installation will proceed, with progress displayed throughout. The installer will also check whether your PC has Java software required for TalkSwitch configuration software.



The update process may take several minutes.

Step 8: During the update of USB software, a window will appear to request that you disconnect any USB cable plugged into TalkSwitch. When there is no USB connection to TalkSwitch, click the OK button to proceed.



Step 9: When all files have been loaded, you will be given the option to include shortcuts to the TalkSwitch software.



A final window will confirm that the installation has completed successfully. Click the Finish button.



Note: If the installation did not succeed, close the installer, ensure that the PC is running a fully-updated, compatible version of Windows, then re-try the installation.
If necessary contact your Authorized TalkSwitch reseller.



INSTRUCTIONS FOR UPDATING FIRMWARE TO RELEASE 6.12


In order to take advantage of new features, you need to update the firmware of all of your TalkSwitch units. This process will require that the system not be used for phone calls for approximately 3-15 minutes.

Step 1: Ensure TalkSwitch is connected to the same LAN as your PC, or connect your PC directly to TalkSwitch using a USB cable.

Step 2: Run TalkSwitch Management Software. The program should automatically detect any connected TalkSwitch units.



Step 3: When software establishes a connection with the TalkSwitch unit, a window will pop up, informing you there is new firmware available. Click Update to proceed.



Step 4: A second window will appear with information about your firmware update options. By default, the most recent available firmware for your region will be selected. For quickest results select the Auto-Reboot option. Click Update to proceed.



The software will retrieve your TalkSwitch configuration file and store a copy of it. A new configuration file will be created, which contains your previous settings and default settings for new features. Progress will be displayed as each essential phone system file is updated.



If you did not select Auto-Reboot, when the firmware update is complete a status window will appear. Select one of the reboot options, then click the Reboot button to proceed.

A dialog will appear with a timer while the system(s) reboot.



Step 5: When the reboot is complete, your newly converted configuration file will be saved to your TalkSwitch units, and the configuration software will open.



Step 6: Upon opening the configuration software you will be notified to optimize the audio performance of your telephone lines before using the phone system. Click the OK button to proceed.

From the configuration software left menu select Telephone Lines, then click the Calibrate Lines button in the Line Optimization field. A Calibrate lines window will appear.



Select one of the telephone line calibration methods, then click the Proceed button. Complete the calibration of your telephone lines using the chosen method.



Congratulations! Your TalkSwitch software and firmware updates are complete.
