What's an IP extension?
TalkSwitch systems support two different kinds of telephones; traditional analog
phones and IP telephones that plug into your data network, rather than into a
telephone jack. To ensure interoperability with the best IP phones, TalkSwitch
uses the industry-leading SIP standard for IP-based telephony.
Phone freedom
TalkSwitch IP extensions give you the freedom to choose the kinds of phones you
want; our line of specialized
analog phones, third-party standard analog phones,
approved IP phones from other manufacturers and even softphones (software phones
that run on your computer).
Easy networking
IP extensions can save you money on wiring if you're just starting out or opening
a new office. Because they run on your LAN rather than on traditional telephone
lines, there's no need to wire your office for both kinds of networks.
TalkSwitch IP extensions
TalkSwitch VS, 48-CA and 48-CVA systems accommodate IP extensions. The
extensions can be configured to operate with analog or IP telephones.
Own an older TalkSwitch 48-CA or 48-CVA? TalkSwitch software 4.0 is required for
IP extensions. Just update your software to the latest version.
Supported IP phones
The SIP standard was designed to facilitate interoperability of all SIP-based
devices. For best performance, we've tested and approved the following IP phones
for use with TalkSwitch. Keep an eye on this list — we'll be adding new phones
as we test them.
Polycom Series - 301,430,501,601
Grandstream - GXP2000
Counterpath - Eyebeam soft client
Some TalkSwitch features may work slightly differently with different phones.
Specific firmware versions for each phone are supported. For more information
or configuration details, see our
IP phone resources page.
