IP phone network requirements
For trouble-free performance, IP phones require a properly configured LAN.
For most offices, particularly ones with more than eight IP phones or with heavy data traffic,
TalkSwitch recommends a standard network deployment with all IP phones connected directly
to the network switch.

In offices with fewer than eight IP phones and with light to moderate data traffic (mainly e-mail
and web use), IP phones can be connected to the network with each user’s computer via the
pass-through port. This set-up typically works well in retail stores, doctor’s offices, real
estate offices and similar businesses.
